Following on from the last post about varroa mites exposing the reduced immunity of bees caused by neonicotinoids, I remembered this subtle metaphor which has been in draft for a while waiting for the right time:
Beekeeper and varroa mite
relate to one another like beginning and end, cause and effect. The
mites tear the visible tissue; modern beekeeping methods tear the
invisible bond. Mites mirror our handling of bees on an organic level.
They are executors of processes we began. The varroa plague does not
create the problem, but reveals it. From "Global Hive" by Horst Kornberger.
Now re-read that quote with the word "beekeeping" replaced with "agricultural".
